Today thirty seven kids from Pod 2 got to go to the Regent Cinemas in Ballarat to see the movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a series of movies based on the books from American Author Jeff Kinney. The books and the movies are written in the perspective of journal entries by a boy called Greg. Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days is the fourth book in the series of six.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days tells the story of a group of kids on summer holidays. Rowley, Greg’s best friend, invites Greg to come on a camp with him, this camp is the main setting where lots of interesting events occur.
When asked what she would rate the movie out of 10 stars, Sarah said “TEN!” while Nyagua said “TWENTY” with a chuckle. Sounds like the kids had a great time!
While most of the kids were out of the Pod the remaining students had fun on an Elf hunt. There were 12 little elves hidden around the Pod that students had to find and describe it’s location. For example, Elf 10 was hidden on the bottom right of the large whiteboard in Mr Shillito, Ms Doherty and Laura’s classroom.
The winners of the challenge were Wes and Cory who each received a candy cane!
It is coming close to the end of the school year and the teachers in Pod 2 have been happy to reward the kids in the Pod who have been working well this year or who need that extra push to work well until the end of the year.
On Friday, the sun was peaking through the clouds and three groups were eager to get outside and experience new things.
One group went fishing at the Tuki Trout Farm with Mr Shillito and Ms Petrie – everyone caught something, even Ms Petrie!!
Ms Petrie and her very first fish
A group of students who had shown resilience and persistence during Bike Ed throughout the year went for a bike ride and BBQ around the lake with Mr Mac and Mr Bone.
While another group of students who had consistently completed their nightly reading throughout the year went to the Plaster Fun House with Ms Doherty and Laura. They had an ABSOLUTE BLAST painting and were lucky enough to sneak in an ice cream at the end!
Plaster Fun House fun!
In the moment
The end of year celebrations do not end here! On Monday teachers are taking students to the Cinema to see ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’. Mr Bone and Mr Mac are planning more bike rides, Laura and Mr Bone are taking a group to Mc Donalds for lunch and we have a whole Pod party at the end of the week!

On Tuesday, December 11, students at our school participated in a whole day transition across our school.
Our Grade 2 students spent a day in POD 2, getting to know their new learning space, new teachers and new POD members for 2013.
We had a great day with students participating in a variety of activities throughout the day with the emphasis on getting to know each other, finding out a little about POD 2 and helping the new students and staff feel a little more comfortable about their move.
There was a great buzz in the POD with a feeling of excitement for 2013. It would be great to know what our students are looking forward to in 2013 as a member of POD 2. Please click on the comment button below and share your thoughts.
On Tuesday the 11th at Yuille Park there is going to be a big transition for the students who are going to a different Pod next year. It will include pods 1, 2 and 3. They will be doing some fun activities, meeting the new teachers and making new friends.
Jesse is moving into pod 3 next year. When asked how he was feeling about moving, he said “I am looking forward to going into pod 3 next year and seeing what they do between school hours”.
The transition will start at 9am and finish at 3:15pm when school finishes.
When you went into a new class did you have a transition to meet new teachers or students? What activities did you do?
